Mission Statement

To preserve, enhance, and develop the artistic, literary and historic heritage of Prince Oleg Volkonsky and his renowned family and ancestors.

To advance artistic expression, civic participation, and social, cultural and economic development of our diverse community by supporting and promoting of arts and culture in the Southern France, Europe and worldwide.

To promote the most distinguished and prompt achievements in the arts and music, both traditional and modern (contemporary) art.

To create and develop a network of art institutions through the cooperation with other cultural organizations in the South of France and abroad.

The scope of our activities will enhance but not be limited to: Exhibitions, Vernissages, Concerts of international musical celebrities, Cultural workshops, Sponsorship programs for the distinguished artists, musicians, writers and sculptors.

The Volkonsky Foundation will extend support to cultural projects of other institutions and individuals including distinguished modern artists and musicians in the art and musical history, research and curatorial practice, art and music pedagogy, art practice in the social domain.

Through the activities and initiatives of the Volkonsky Foundation we are focused on bringing the arts to communities both locally and abroad. We do this, not only because every individual deserves to enjoy the many benefits of the arts, but because engaged and inclusive communities build strong relations and ties.

We believe that the arts help communities thrive. The arts in all its forms can offer perspective and creative solutions to the challenges we face. The arts inspire, challenge, excite, spark conversations, bridge differences, and so much more.

We hope our programs, research and awards will inspire people to join us and make your own contribution towards our common vision.

900 AC: RURIK, founder of the RURIK dynasty, ruler of Novgorod, later PRINCE OF KIEVAN RUS and further on – of Moscow. The RURIK dynasty ruled Russia for over 700 years

1400: IVAN “THE FAT HEAD”, PRINCE OF TARUSSA, considered to be the ancestor of the VOLKONSKY Dynasty

1776 - 1852: PRINCE PJOTR VOLKONSKY – General Field-Marshall (1843), Adjutant General to EMPEROR ALEXANDER I (1821)

1788 - 1845: PRINCE NIKOLAI REPNIN-VOLKONSKY, General of Cavalry, Ambassador to Spain and Westphalia, the Governor General of SAXONY in 1813

1786 - 1838: PRINCE SERGEY VOLKONSKY, the Governor of REIMS in 1814

1753 - 1821: PRINCE NIKOLAY VOLKONSKY, General of Infantry, grandfather of LEO TOLSTOY and figured as Prince Andrej “BOLKONSKY“ in LEO TOLSTOY’s “War and Peace”

1790 - 1830: PRINCESS MARIA VOLKONSKAYA, the mother of LEO TOLSTOI

1895 - 1977: PRINCESS LYDIA VOLKONSKAYA, the mother of OLEG VOLKONSKY

1939 - 2023: PRINCE OLEG VOLKONSKY, belongs to the third branch of the VOLKONSKY dynasty

1984 - present: PRINCE ALEXANDER VOLKONSKY, USA, son of OLEG VOLKONSKY

2005 - present: PRINCE MICHAEL VOLKONSKY, son of OLEG VOLKONSKY
